Lions Avoid Upset Bid Against Browns

The Detroit Lions were expecting a cake walk against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday afternoon. The Lions were wrong, but they still won the game 38-24.

With the Lions trailing 10-3 in the second quarter, Ameer Abdullah scored on a 8-yard touchdown run. Abdullah finished with 52 rushing yards on 11 carries and a touchdown. Nevin Lawson recovered a fumble and returned in 44 yards to the house for Detroit later in the second. Before halftime, DeShone Kizer ran a quarterback sneak inside the two-yard line and they didn’t score. Cleveland had no timeouts remaining.

The Browns scored to the start the third quarter on a 6-yard touchdown run by Isaiah Crowell. He rushed for 90 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown. Kizer scored on a 1-yard rushing touchdown later in the third. Kizer completed 21-of-37 passes for 232 yards one touchdown and one interception. He rushed for 57 yards on seven carries and a score. He left the game in the third quarter with an injury and Kizer did not return.

Theo Riddick caught a 8-yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford in the third. Riddick caught three passes for 12 yards receiving and a touchdown. He rushed for 35 yards on four carries as well.

In the fourth quarter, Matthew Stafford threw two touchdown passes to Eric Ebron (29 yards) and Golden Tate (40 yards). Ebron finished with two receptions for 39 yards receiving and a touchdown. Tate finished with six receptions for 97 yards receiving and a touchdown. Stafford completed 17-of-26 passes for 249 yards three touchdowns and a interception.

The Browns will host the Jacksonville Jaguars (5-3) next Sunday and the Lions will travel to face the Chicago Bears (3-6) next Sunday.
